‍5 Different Ways to Make Coffee in Your RV

French Press

Just as soon as I bought a new French Press for myself, I immediately stopped using the traditional countertop coffee maker and gave it away to one of my best friends. Basically, if you're using a French Press to make your coffee, the only thing that you need to do is to boil the water and pour it into the pitcher. It's pretty much the same as using a coffee maker, and the only cons of using a French Press is that it cannot be programmed to make your coffee the night before.

However, in most cases, most people living in an RV would most likely have no problem with spending about 10 minutes to make their coffee in the morning. One thing that you should note when buying a French Press is the type of material that it is made from. The first time I bought a French Press, I managed to only use it for a few weeks before it finally broke. I ended up buying a new one made from stainless steel that I still use up to this day.

Pour-Over Cone

Another way for you to make coffee without having to sacrifice most of the space available in your RV is by using a pour-over cone. I would normally put these cones on a mug or beaker, depending on my mood. I would then pour the boiled water into the mug so that it filters through the coffee ground. One thing to look for when buying a pour-over cone is the filter. Make sure you buy the one that already has a filter built-in; otherwise, you will need to buy the filter separately.

One thing that most people tend to forget is to preheat the cup and cone with boiling water while they are grinding their coffee. Keep in mind that you should always do this to prevent your coffee from rapidly losing heat, which would make your coffee cools faster than you might think. Besides that, you should always be careful not to pour too much water into your cup. You can always pour the boiling water in a mug first and then pour it into your cup to mix with your grounds so that you know exactly how much water you're pouring in.

Percolator

A percolator can be considered a classic stovetop method commonly used before the existence of an automatic coffeemaker that you can use to make coffee in your RV. Nowadays, you have a lot of options, so you might also want to try out the electric percolator to make things easier. I would highly suggest you buy an electric percolator instead because most people that are inexperienced with using a percolator may have a higher tendency to over boil the coffee.

Keep in mind that when you are using a percolator, you are not supposed to see any type of steam that's coming out from the percolator, and if you do, then that just means that you have over boiled your coffee, which is a bad thing. The first thing you need to do is add the coffee ground into the top basket, followed by some water in the bottom basket. Then, turn on the percolator and wait for seven to ten minutes, depending on the level of strength of coffee that you prefer.

Drip Coffee Maker

If you still prefer to use a drip coffee maker instead of making your own coffee in your RV, then you should know that most of the drip coffee makers that are available today should come with a travel mug. This type of coffee maker helps you to save more space in your RV. Making coffee by using a drip coffee maker is one of the easiest ways that are available to brew a fresh pot of coffee.

Firstly, make sure that you grind your coffee to a fine size particle. Then, use the filter basket to put your filter, and for those that don't know it yet, every automatic drip coffee maker would have a filter basket that can be easily found just below the brew head. After that, add one tablespoon of coffee to the filter, followed by cold water into the reservoir. Finally, press the "Start" button to initiate the brew cycle.

DIY Coffee Bags

DIY Coffee Bags is an ideal way for you to make your own coffee in your RV if you're just sick of the same generic instant coffee and would like to save more time to focus on your work. Making your very own coffee bags is easier than you might think it would be. All you need to make your own coffee bags are some tea bags, coffee grounds of your choice, and a decent seal bag.

The first thing that you need to do is to grind the coffee grounds and then put them into the sealed bag. After that, whenever you need to drink a cup of coffee in your RV, all you have to do is to pour some of the ground coffee grounds from the big seal bag into one of the tea bags that you have. Finally, the only thing that you need to do is to seal it and pour some boiled water into your coffee cup together with some sugar or milk.

What are the Suggested Coffee Beans?

One type of coffee bean that I would highly recommend is the light roasts coffee beans. The reason is that these types of beans have a higher caffeine content and provide more flavor notes. Most people tend to have a misconception when it comes to the color and texture of the best coffee beans as they thought that roast with a darker color is the stronger type of coffee, which is completely false. This is because the longer the coffee beans are roasted, the higher the level of caffeine and flavors that it loses.

Hence, the ones that are mildly roasted tend to have a richer flavor and provide a higher level of caffeine. The best type of coffee beans would be the ones from the Blue Bottle Coffee, DOMA Coffee Roasting Company, Cafe Demitasse, Seeds Coffee, and Thump Coffee. A QUICK TIP: A high-quality roaster would usually provide a roast date on the coffee bag. You should always pick the ones that are freshly roasted, which would usually be roasted within the past week or two. Any coffee beans that's been roasted longer than that is not an ideal bag of coffee beans.

How to Pick the Right Grind?

There are a lot of coffee grinders that are available nowadays, but the question remains how do you know you buy the best grinder? To know for certain which grinder is the best one, let's take a look at some of the factors that would determine the quality of the grinder. One of the critical factors to take note of is the consistency and the particle size. In order to get the best from your coffee beans, you will need to get a grinder that could grind it to just the right consistency.

Besides that, you will also need to consider the price of the grinder. Just in case you don't mind spending some extra money to get the best quality grinder, then the price range could be as low as $100 to $500. Bear in mind that the higher the amount of money that you're willing to spend on the coffee beans, the higher the value that you can expect to get from a quality grinder.

Next, the capacity of a grinder also plays an important role in choosing the perfect grinder. This is because a good grinder should have a decent level of capacity so that it could grind a decent amount of coffee beans at a time. You could just settle for the grinder with a small capacity if you will only need to make coffee for up to three people. However, if you need to make coffee for more than three people at a time, only then should you look for the one that has a higher capacity.
